One Tuesday back in March we had a crazy good day.
The boys were out of school so I schlepped everyone down to the Huntsville Botanical Gardens. It was one of those days where I had the thought:
Maybe we should homeschool...No more getting up at the crack of dawn, no more not being able to travel when ever we wanted and no more homework over dinner.
That thought lasted until we got home and I actually tried to work with the kids on their schoolwork and then I remembered why we attend a traditional school.
My in laws got us a family pass to the gardens for Christmas so now we can go anytime we want for free. Well, freeish. You have to walk right past the gift shop full of breakables on your way to the gardens so there is always the possibility of expensive peril there.
The kids loved the gardens. They have a huge children's area with a ton of different things for the kids to do. I'll blog about it later.* What I want to blog about today are those glorious little trees decorating the railway.
Bonsai Trees!
They weren't just decorating the railroads though! They had a special display set up.
Did you know that Bonsai trees were first found in historical documents in China in the seventh century?
The seventh freaking century!
Look:
Here is the first recorded use of them:
It's from the Tang Dynasty.
And yes, the copy write on the picture has expired so I'm free to use it on my blog! It's the straight and narrow for me from now on! I've reformed my wicked ways.
I love bonsai trees.
They are just so darn cute.
Cute like this:
But they are also rather stately.
For some reason, they used to sell them out of a van in a gas station parking lot in downtown Huntsville.
Weird, huh.
Plus it's just the name...Bonsai. You kinda gotta shout it. Bonsai! Come on, say it with me! BONSAI!!!!!
Say it a bunch of times in a row!
Just don't say it in the gift shop because you might break something.

Paula, the picture of the boys with arms around each other is a rare treasure.
ReplyDeleteIn the interest of full disclosure: I asked them to put their arms around each other. ; )
