This morning we headed to the country...
...or as I refer to it:
The Country
...and picked pears from the the pear tree.
In the country the pear tree is in between the peach tree and the apple tree.
The apple tree is near the muscadine vine which is near the blackberry bushes which are near the fig tree which is across the field from the garden which is near the log cabin that has cantaloupe growing outside of it.
And that's the house that Jack built.
Or something like it.
Anyway, it's a veritable picker's delight in any season 'sides Winter.
Now...
Back to the pears.
Mature Pear trees are tall.
Minions tend to be small.
So...
What's the solution for retrieving the pears from the pear tree?
Let's look at our options.
Option One:
Get the tall teenager to do it.
Solution denied.
The teenager is still asleep.
Option Two:
Climb the tree.
Solution denied.
The pears are higher than he can climb.
Option the third:
Throw fallen pears at the pears.
Solution denied.
Don't tell him but his aim isn't quite there yet.
Option four:
Go fetch a large and unwieldy piece of wood.
Preferably one with a sharp nail through it.
Because, you know, safety first and all that.
And proceed to poke the pears with the pole in an attempt to bring them down.
Easy with the stick child.
Solution denied.
The stick was just a bit too unstable.
Ultimately, we chose option five:
Climb up on Granddaddy's shoulders and reach for the pears.
When the pears get too high...
...you can use the toy grabber thingie*
...to grasp the pear
Closer...
Just a little closer...
And voila!
A beautiful pear.

Note to self:
When picking pears next year advise middle child not to wear his Sponge Bob t-shirt.
It kinda wrecks the whole 'back to nature' vibe we had going.
Well, that and the fact none of the kids knew that pears actually grew on trees.
