I can't imagine why my kid's love visiting my cousins in Hazlehurst, Mississippi so much...
The rattlesnake skins?
They loved them.
Could it be the thousands of tadpoles they found in the creek behind their house?
Maybe it's the big ole dogs they have:
This baby loved these dogs.
She kinda wanted to be one.
Maybe it's the four wheeler.
And yes, I know he should have been wearing a helmet.
Maybe it was the old school playground in the next town.
I miss merry go rounds.
Maybe it was the 'whoppers' they kept catching in the pond behind their house.
Those things were great.
But what it really might have been was their house.
My cousin's wife is a collector and her collections are right up their alleys.
See that boar's head?
They loved it.
The rattlesnake skins?
They loved them.
The hunting knives?
They loved them.
The bobcats fighting?
Yep, they loved them.
What do I love about going to Mississippi?
This picture of my Mom: Stella
and
My daughter: Stella
standing at the house of my Mom's Grandmother Stella.
I loved listening to these men as they made homemade ice cream.
Discussing the way 'Mamma used to do it."
And my Mom standing on the porch of the house they lived in Raymond, Mississippi 'til she was seven.
Ignore the dopey expression on the baby.
She doesn't travel so well.
This blog is getting way too Southern.
And that's just a few of the reasons I love my Mississippi cousins.
ReplyDeleteYou do not have cousins from Hazlehurst MS!!?!? My MOM is from Hazlehurst. I grew up spending summers down there. Small small world. No one comes to MS! Maybe I'll actually get to meet a real live blogging friend in person one day!
