Thursday afternoon Mom and I loaded up the kids and headed over to Greene Street Market, a local produce market.
The Market...sheesh, did I just use the word 'market' again...happens every Thursday from 4-8 in downtown Huntsville in the summer.
I wasn't sure what to expect but it was certainly nothing like what I was anticipating.
I'd never been before but I assumed there would be a couple of tables set up with some hot house tomatoes and a painted gourd.
You know there are always painted gourds at these gigs.
Let me tell you, there was nary a gourd in sight.
Our first stop was at the hipster popsicle stand.
I mean, it wasn't officially called the Hipster Popsicle Stand but it was all very hipster.
As you can see they had all kinds of flavors.
The avocado was tempting but in the end we opted for pink lemonade and blueberry.
The veggies were all super fresh looking. It was interesting because half the farmers looked like your average Grandma and Grandpa and the other half looked like hippies from a commune.
A good commune though, not a scary one.
We bought some amazing gnocchi and bolognese sauce from these two gentlemen. I know it was amazing because we broke it open and ate it after we had a little pool time tonight.
"Quick! To the bolognese!"
One of the things I was most excited about were these breakfast cookies.
Oh, hi foot. I see you peeking down there.
I mean anytime you can put breakfast and cookie in the same sentence it's a win, right?
I questioned whether I needed to get quite so much but I'm really happy with my purchases.
Especially since an hour after leaving the dang car broke down and I had to break into one of these cheddar basil scones from SwEEt Thang Cookies.
So...Now that I bought all this business...
Baked potato wedges covered with a light coating of oil, sea salt, pepper, and an herb you like. Carrots shredded and steamed in an orange juice. Big delicious salad, and some meat (if you aren't vegan!). What a freaking delicious haul!
ReplyDeleteYum! That sounds delicious!
DeleteWhip on down to the high end Huntsville store for a BlendTec or VitaMix blender ($400!!) and whip up a batch of green smoothies just brimming with vitamins and free radicals and oxides and di-methyl this and that and according to the smoothie activists (!) you will absolutely glow with health. Don't cheap out now - the blogs say that any other blender will collapse into a pile of whimpering parts under the load of green smoothies. Must be the kale. BTW wouldn't it be cool if you were known as Huntsville's "Smoothie Activist?"
ReplyDeleteWe have a Vita Mix that I stole from my Mom - I frequently make requisitions at her house of things I like.
DeleteI'll report back on how it goes.
