What To Do When You Hear That Sound...

"Do your ears hang low, do they wobble to and fro, can you tie 'em in a knot, can you tie 'em in a bow"

Oh, you know the song...the ice cream truck song!

Actually when I googled 'ice cream truck songs' I found out that they are different all over the States. Apparently, up north 'The Entertainer' is the song most often used.

Crazy, huh?

I have a love hate relationship with the ice cream truck.

I didn't grow up in a neighborhood so I never even knew an ice cream man existed! That is, until I saw this book:

It was at the Bessie K Russell library waiting to be shelved. I was probably eight. I couldn't believe such an amazing thing existed.

Now I live in a neighborhood and I gotta admit sometimes when I hear it coming...

Let's just say it doesn't put me in a good humor.

I've been known to turn the vacuum on to drowned...

Is that spelled right? Drowned? It looks weird.

...out the noise.

Yep, the minions don't hear it if the vacuum is running.

"You do what?"

The joy they get at hearing that song though...

It's quite something to behold.

They line up beside the street and wait the intermitably long time it takes for the truck to get to our house.

Itchy backs, ants, and mosquitoes are no strangers to us.

And finally it arrives!

Last year I learned that different parts of town have different ice cream trucks and different price ranges.

We're smack dab in the middle.

Ah, the junior bomb pop - it's the cheapest thing on the menu and usually sold out but today it wasn't.

The ice cream man cometh...

And I'm just fine with it.

    1. It was the best because it wasn't overwhelming. The big library is too dang big.

  3. Back in Ireland we had an ice cream van but it always rains in Ireland which put a damp rag on the fun! Here in Italy we don't have one - we have a cheese and salami van instead (which isn't the same thing)! I have to walk into town with the children to go to one of the 5 or 6 gelateria's (a disproportionate number of ice cream parlors, I thinks, for a small town!).

    1. I say you can never have too many gelaterias!

That is too funny about ice cream in Ireland - I've never thought about that!
