The Time Warp Trail

One of the things at Cousin's Camp that has been the most successful is the Time Warp Trail. It's an event where the kids walk between stations and interact with participants that are dressed in period costume and tell stories.

Originally participants dressed up as specific ancestors to give the children a lesson in family history and funny family stories. We've been doing it for so many years not that people that participate can choose to be any old character they want. We traditionally do it on the last day of camp as kind of a closing ceremony.

If you are looking for ideas for cousin's camp ideas this is certainly a great one.

First, the littlest children are loaded up in wagons -  the bigger kids walk.

Here you can see my cousin Rusty hitching a ride on the little kids wagon. Probably using keeping the kids safe as some sort of excuse to hop a ride.

Sure, I'd be laughing to if I got to ride on the wagon.

Actually I usually participate which means I don't have to walk anywhere! It's the best.

My Dad participates every year and has acted as various relatives.

One year he was in character driving the tractor when the tractor broke down.

The kids thought it was part of the skit.

It wasn't.

My cousin in law Danny is fantastic every year. I'm never sure what kind of tomfoolery he is going to come up with.

The Time Warp Trail is really my Aunt Charlotte's baby. She came up with it and participates often.

Usually at each station the actor hands out some sort of treat for the kids. Watermelon, lemonade, etc.

Have I mentioned how hot it is every year? All those snacks help.

I just love drinking out of a Dixie cup. Don't you?

My Aunt Carol participates most every year.

Here she is dressed as a Native American.

Obviously.

One year the kids got 'toothbrushes' from the toothbrush tree. There is a tree that grows in the woods whose twigs taste kind of toothbrushy.

Spellcheck doesn't approve of my spelling of the word toothbrushy.

How peculiar.

This unfortunately is not a character on the Time Warp Trail.

This...

This is a loafer.
