It's the Great Salt Lake, Charlie Brown

What does this post have to do with Charlie Brown? Oh, nothing - but for some reason when I went to type in 'It's the Great Salt Lake' I pictured Linus screaming "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown."

So...

The Great Salt Lake.

When we were in Utah last month we had a free morning so we meandered over to the lake. It was pretty crazy. The lake was very different. In fact it was kind of...and I mean this in the absolute nicest sense of the word...smelly.

It's true.

And I gotta say the lake creeped me out a little bit. It's just strange to have all that water with NOTHING living in it. Well, I shouldn't say nothing. There are all kinds of microscopic organisms in it as well as some sort of tiny shrimp that get used in sea monkey kits and are harvested as feed for prawns in China.

Man...I actually hope Wikipedia is wrong on that because it just adds to the ick factor.

I wouldn't want to swim in it but people must. I saw this guy paddle boarding.

Paddle Boarding is one of those sports that looks like so much fun but in actuality is probably really freaking hard.

The beach was very rocky and even had some crazy volcanic rocks that were left over from an eruption in the Pleistocene Age. I don't know. I just don't want to live anywhere that has visible reminders of the Pleistocene Age.

Is that odd?

Hello, lake.

Did I think the some sort of sea monster was about to come swimming across the lake? Why, yes. I did. I mean, of course I didn't. But, I wouldn't have been surprised had it happened.

It was pretty though.

Pretty but icky.

  1. When I was back in the UK I went to Loch Ness with camera ready for a sighting of its famous sea monster. That would really have been something to blog about - though for me it would have to have been something along the lines: 'how Italians like to cook their sea monster'!
