Honestly, honesty.

I got a new Bible this year for Christmas. It's an ESV Bible so the translation is a little different than what I'm used to. It's good though because then I can't cop out on scripture memory. I mean, some of the verses just don't sound like they used to.

So, it's good to relearn them in a different translation.

But as I was marking up my new Bible I got to thinking...

Ya know that moment when you look around at everyone else and think:

All these people are more normal than I am.

Well, I thought that this morning when I was looking at my Bible.

See, I have a feeling my Bible is different than everyone else's.

I mean...

I don't think the actual printed words are different.

I think the notes I've made are different.

Let's take a look see, shall we?

Thing the first:

I'm a doodler.

I'm so bad about doodling that I even have to write myself notes to tell myself to stop doodling.

Ridiculous.

Surely other people don't doodle in their Bibles.

Thing the second:

I'm perhaps a tad too...opinionated.

A tad too honest.

Because for every nice pretty note I've made like this one:

and this one:

and this one:

And even this one:

There are more that look like this one:

and this one:

and

And this one:

But dang it!

Some of it is hard stuff!

And some of it is strange language!

I mean...

Perhaps 'horrid' is taking it a little far...

Yeah...

That's too far.

I guess there is such a thing as too much honesty.

"Wow, lady. I'm only two and even I know that."

So noted.

And possibly the laptop.

Who knew trying to memorize scripture would cause such controversy?!

  1. Oh, this is SO good. Your notes make me smile, all of them. One day your kids will fight over who gets Mama's Bible. :-) Keep it up!

    1. Thanks. They've all drawn in it at one time or another so I'm sure they can all claim squatters rights. ; )

  2. I just got a new Bible and I've been hesitant to mark it up like I have other Bibles, but it makes me think of my grandma's Bible where she marked many verses. Thanks for this great post.

  4. I have two different translations that I use regularly right now and one is marked up with some things from studies I've done, Greek words that were used to get the point across etc. I love highlighters too. I've just not gotten to the point of writing in pen, I do it all in pencil. But highlighting is just like pen hmmmm
