You'll Be Us One Day...

A few days ago I walked past the Great American Cookie Company in the mall and saw this:

A group of teenagers chowing down on gigantic slices of cookie cake and gulping down cokes.

Oh, teenage metabolisms...I remember you.

My first thought was:

Enjoy it now girls!

Your time...it's a comin'.

Which kinda reminded me of this one time in college...

We were on Spring Break at Panama City Beach coming in from a carefree day on the beach when we walked past a group of Moms with their toddlers.

They had been sitting beside us all day and it had been a rough day for them.

They looked hot and sweaty and exhausted and the kids were crying and the dads were no where in sight...

It was just bad.

They were kind of frumpy and they all had mom hair cuts and they just looked...

...tired.

One of the Moms looked over at our group and with absolute venom in her voice said:

"Don't laugh. You'll be us one day."

It kinda scared me.

It scared me because:

A) I was afraid she was about to go crazy pants on us

and

B) I was afraid that I would feel like that when I was her age.

But really what I wanted to tell her was:

"Well, yeah. I hope so."

I mean, what's so wrong with that?

What's wrong with wearing a Mom swim suit and having a Mom haircut?

So, when I saw those teenagers gnoshing on their cookies I didn't wish I was them.

I'm glad to be where I am.

Although I'm not getting a minivan.***

No matter how great they are.

  2. Everyone always tells me, "Yeah yeah, eat what you want, your metabolism will catch up with you one day." Except, they don't see my father, who's the exact same height and weight I am. Guess I lucked out on that front.
