So for the first time in a week my city has:
A) Power
and
B) No curfew.
The whole curfew thing is surreal.
Huntsville has been under a curfew for a week now because of the tornadoes on April 27th.
Huntsville has been under a curfew for a week now because of the tornadoes on April 27th.
I've never lived anywhere with a curfew before.
Well, besides my house as a teenager.
Me and my friend Grace as teenagers:
Me: "I think the spider we're holding thinks we should break curfew."
The Spider: "I never said that."
SO, I've never lived anywhere as an adult with a curfew before.
Last night my husband got very close to being out past curfew.
This prompted me to start sending texts like the following:
"If you don't get home soon the police are going to arrest you for violating curfew and I'm not coming to bust you out of the pokey."
But, power is back on and so the curfew is lifted.
The day of the tornados our power went out early.
About noon actually.
Unfortunately, I had stayed up really late the night before.
So, I was crazy tired already.
What do you do with kids when the power is out?
Well, playing outside was not an option as tornados were swirling overhead.
Seriously, several times that day I watched tornadoes swirling in the sky.
Seriously, several times that day I watched tornadoes swirling in the sky.
Playing boardgames was also not an option as the toddler is in a troublesome stage.
Leaving them to their own devices was not an option because every hour or so we were having to hide in the bathroom and the oldest was...concerned.
We spent the majority of our time doing three things:
1) Charades.
Some of the things the minions chose to be:
A cookie sitting on the ground.
A cow.
Bacon after it's been cooked.
I really have no idea.
The good news is that I think everyone's kids are this weird.
Anyway...
Next:
2) Light saber battles
Well, light saber battles when they could steal them away from this beastly thing.
Does anyone know why the flash on my iPhone makes my children's eyes look like zombies'?
By the way...I'm scared of zombies.
Seriously!
They creep me out.
Which, obviously they are supposed to creep you out but I have a greater fear of them than normal.
So, I'm scared of zombies.
And big dogs.
And flying.
Other than that I'm totally brave.
Brave-ish, anyway.
So light saber battles.
Good stuff.
Next:
3) Flashlight theatrics
This kid was shocked that she could push a button and light would appear.
Oh, the joy a flashlight brings...
The other thing we did was eat.
Is there anything better than Nutella, Dr Pepper, and French Bread?
The answer is no.
Dang.
I wish I had some right now.
Hmmm...no curfew.
And we have power so I can use gas in town with no fear of people needing it for generators.
Heck, yeah I'm going to the store at 9 pm!
