So this is my friend Liz with her Mom.
Aren't they beautiful?
Liz is from Texas.
She even has cowgirl boots!
Which, can I just say, she looks super cute in.
So the story of how Liz got moved to Alabama seems pretty basic at first:
Boy meets girl.
Boy marries girl.
Girl moves to Alabama.
And thats basically how it went down but since I've been packing the house up I found my journal from 2005 so I thought I'd share a bit.
So here are the 'goods' on how it all started.
Back in 2005 my husband's best friend was single.
Single guy on the left.
In December of that year I wrote this in my journal:
Just in case you can't read it I'll transcribe:
"James W took us to the Madrigal Dinner at Covenant College. It was so beautiful. James brought a girl named Liz. He met her at church and she seemed great. She is funny and smart.
I really liked her which of course probably means they'll never go out again!
Nice.
I love how I was totally throwing James under the bus there.
Sheesh, could I have been any ruder?
That was in December here is what came in January.
"James stopped me last night as I was heading to get Billy after work and told me he is really falling for Liz. He said that the other night she came over and stood beside him and his heart just dropped. Those were his exact words! How sweet. I'll keep praying."
And then in February I wrote this:
"James said that he plans on fixing Liz tacos for Valentines Day. I advised him that was...
...a very bad idea.
If I recall correctly he did not take my advice.
Why doesn't anyone ever listen to me!
Here is the next bit about them in the journal:
Just read an e-mail from James about Liz. In it he says she is "simply the most amazing woman I have ever met. She leaves me speechless." Which, let me tell you, is quite a feat.
Again with the throwing of him under the bus.
But if you knew him...you would know.
He is rarely speechless.
He must not have remained speechless for very long because he proposed.
Here we all are doing a little bowling.
Its what all the cool kids do.
Just look at the look on Billy's face.
He definitely belongs with the cool kids.
So that all began six years ago.
When this:
Looked like this:
Wow.
A lot can happen in six years.
That boy is at a sleepover tonight.
Here was the invitation he got for it:
The birthday boy made it all by himself - which makes it even cuter.
Lets just talk about this invitation shall we:
1) I love how it announces it's going to be the 'best sleepover of your life.'
Like they have all had these long lives and have so much experience with sleepovers.
2) I love how the fact that there is NO BEDTIME has so many exclamation points.
Well, I mean I love it because I'm not the Mom in charge.
Put simply this invitation was like the holy grail to my minion.
He loved everything about it.
He was totally impressed by it.
Of course this James:
is easily impressed.
This James, however:
is not.
Good thing this girl:
is so awesome.
I love it! So great to re-visit the James and Liz story. You'll have to make your next post about how they set the house on fire on their second date!! ;)
ReplyDeletePaula, you are the sweetest! I feel so warm and fuzzy and loved!!! I'm just smiling ear-to-ear! How fun to be on your blog!!!!! I feel so famous!!! Can't wait to show James. You are such a great encourager to me! And I'm glad you were there to give James good advice and keep him on the right track!!! hehe ... I had so much fun on our first date - James was great and I thought you and Billy were great too! I remember thinking "If James doesn't ask me out again, I wonder if I can get Paula's contact info and keep in touch with her at least??? She is great!!!" After our first date I emailed James this:
ReplyDeleteJames,
Good morning! Thanks for taking me last night! it was lots of fun to get to know you better and meet some of your friends. I just searched the Fugitives and found this article (pasted below). Is that the right group?
Also, will you pass this book list along to Paula please? Tell her that they are science fiction meant for children (but WAY too dark for children probably). But do warn her that they are weird! But really well-
written and they'll draw you in. OK, I hope your meeting is going well ... in Christ,
liz
Philip Pullman - series is called "His Dark Materials" and the books are:
1. the Golden Compass
2. The Subtle Knife
3. The Amber Spyglass
Hehe ... you and I must have talked a lot about literature! So fun. Wish I still read!!! Not sure what the Fugitives reference is talking about! Then it looks like (i'm looking back at our old emails) you sent me a book list to read. then a few days later I say this in an email to James:
"I'm so glad that Paula ordered those books. I'm gonna email her back if that'sok ... she's so much fun!"
And then James said this: "Please e-mail Paula - she would love that - she really liked you. If you need her address let me know. It was great that you two have some common interests."
Hehe ... so fun to go back and read those!!! The beginning of lots of great relationships - James, you, billy, your kiddos ... sooooo fun! Love you guys!!!
So fun! I do remember us talking about books that night - I think you had taken a kid's i class in college.
ReplyDeleteI should have included pics of you at James' third birthday party. You were such a good sport to come and take so many pictures.
I love getting caught in the middle of this love fest! (Big dreamy sigh....) What a great story.
