If you've spent any time reading blogs you've probably noticed a pretty consistent pattern. Here is how it usually plays out:
A person starts a blog and is really excited about it and busts out a post pretty consistently. And then a year goes by and suddenly the 'I'm sorry it's been so long since I posted!' posts start - and that happens maybe once a month. And then another year passes and the posts stop all together.
So, what happens? Why do people stop blogging? Some people give it up for real life. Because, hey, what do you know! That's pretty darn important. Some people just flat out run out of time and topics. Legitimate.
Heck, it's all legitimate. Your blog is none of my business.
But...I've talked to two people in the past week that this very scenario happened to and they both said, more or less, the same thing. And that thing was, 'there were just so many blogs out there that were better than mine. It just seemed pointless.'
And ya know what? They were totally right. I mean, not about their blogs but about mine. There are plenty, with a capital P, blogs out there that are better than mine.
But...
For me, my blog is like my 4th child. And here's the deal about children: I know a ton of people that are way better parents than I am. More organized, more patient, better teachers etc. But God didn't give my kids to those people, He gave them to me. And I better take care of them the best I can.
So, in the end, I blog because I feel like it's my responsibility to do so for as long as I feel led to do it.

You inspired me to restart my blog and honestly, it provides an outlet for me to share the blessings God has given to me. Thanks for the reminder to write. And keep your blog coming, I look forward to your posts.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Judy!
DeleteYou've almost inspired me to blog but then I can just read your blog and I'm good. And, I have never considered Claunch's nose but next time I see him I won't be able not to look, thanks for that....
ReplyDeleteI'm still waiting on that guest post from you...
DeletePaula, where would I get my (almost) daily dose of whimsy without your blog? How else would I have a peek into life in (as we call it in the great PNW) Abalama? Where else could I be certain to be in company with people whom I presume despise Nick (Forked Tongue) Saban? Besides I love the pictures of your kids. It is easy to find blogs by people who pretend to great accomplishments, intellectual prowess, stylistic fervor, or trenchant humor. OTOH I think it would be great fun to live next door to you and Billy because your blog reflects real people in real life. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteThanks, always kind as usual!
DeleteI haven't been following your blog for very long, but I enjoy the reality of it. You don't have to have something deep and profound to say in your post, you just write about the random stuff that happens. And we can all relate to that. I like it. :)
ReplyDeleteI have 2 blogs, one for normal stuff, one for hobby stuff. I used to update on a very consistent schedule for both, because I had the time to do so. Then I graduated college and it became harder to make time for it. The content in the blogs didn't help, either - I felt like it was either boring, pointless, or way out of my league to be writing about. I made a couple adjustments to how I approach things, and it helped. Still facing those issues, though. BUT, I do still update - I still have things to say. :)
Love ur blog, Paula! Also- thnx for baby Kate updates by email. Looking forward to next post.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Can't wait to meet baby Kate!!!
