Let's Just Like it From Here...

Saturday morning we headed home from Helen, Georgia by a most curious route. Oh, it wasn't my fault. Mapquest and GoogleMaps were bound and determined for me to drive a ridiculous number of miles north to get home - a place that's virtually on the same latitude as Helen.

Who knows why they took me that way...I'm not the mapmaker's mamma. All I know is that even though it seemed ridiculous to end up in North Carolina on your way to Alabama from Georgia I'm really glad I did. It was a great drive.

My favorite part was happening upon the Ocoee Whitewater Center in the Cherokee National Forest.

It was really just an absolutely beautiful place.

I could have stayed there for hours. There were hiking trails that led into the forest as well as walking trails that went beside the river.

Keep smiling kid, just be glad you can't read as the sign warns of death by bear attack

There was a large bridge that...what's the blasted word...circumnavigated? circumferenced? transversed? transcribed? Oh, you know what I mean...it went across the river!

It was the perfect spot to watch the rafts and kayaks brave the rapids.

As soon as we got there Stella, the two year old, went into 'take charge' mode. She began saying 'We got to get a boat! Let's go get a boat! Where are the boats!'

Her nine year old brother on the other hand, a much more cautious fellow, kept saying 'not me, I would not want to do that!'

I told him:

"You might really enjoy it! I think when you're a little older we could try it!"

His response:

"Let's just like it from up here."

I didn't get a chance to ask this kid what he thought.

He was too busy climbing anything that was taller than him. The boy will not stop climbing. It started in full force about a month ago. I cannot keep his feet on the ground.

Seriously! Friday we were deep under ground on a tour of a gold mine in Dahlonega, Georgia listening to a the guide when I looked over and saw this:

Dude was climbing the wall!

Well, I guess as long as he didn't climb in one of the boats - his little sister would have been way too jealous of that.

Boats? Woman, let's just climb.

  1. Looks like an awesome trip. After being cooped up all summer, I'm jonesing for a nice outdoor retreat.

Also, I bet the 9 year old will enjoy rafting when he's older. I go rafting as often as I can - last time I went, I braved the advanced course - and I can't even swim. That's what the big orange floaty vest is for (or so I tell myself).

    1. Dude! Learn to swim! Seriously! It's like driving a stick shift - you just got to know how! Oh, I mean..Perhaps you should consider learning to swim? It might be a life skill you would enjoy having.

  2. This makes me want to go rafting! So much fun, but I haven't been in forever. I agree, when he's older, I bet your son will love it!
