Sleeping Outside...

Last night James, the nine year old, decided he wanted to sleep outside.

I was game so he grabbed one porch swing and I grabbed the other. Around midnight I got crazy cold. I decided to wake him up so we could move inside. When I creeped over to him I snapped a pic because I thought he looked kinda sweet laying there.

But...

Here's the blasted problem with sleeping outside.
Look in the lower right hand side of the the picture.

A bug. Now I know it's a harmless cricket but it's still creepy to think that when I'm sleeping that thing is crawling all over me.

I mean, A Cricket in Times Square is one of my very favorite children's books but I still wouldn't want Chester the cricket sleeping with me.

Ooooh! Ooooh! What about the scene when Mama Bellini remembers being young and in love in her little Italian village! Or the scene when Mario takes Chester to China Town! Or when Chester plays the Italian operas for the Papa Bellini!

I digress.

The whole cricket experience reminded me of the Dave Barry quote:

"Camping: nature's way of promoting the motel industry."

And that, dear readers, just about sums it up.
