Well, kids Day One of Cousin's Camp - Camp Pigeon Roost - is in the books!
Of course the day started out with Pest Control:
Oh, just a scorpion in the back of the mule.
Where the kids usually ride.
Hi there, little guy.
A couple hours later this guy showed up:
Species: Coluber Constrictor Priapus
Otherwise known as the black racer.
He was in the middle of the trail we were walking down and did not want to move for us. We threw a stick at it...
Oh, don't be judgey. We weren't trying to hurt it - we were just trying to get it not to hurt us.
...and it ignored us. We threw one more and it took off. And by 'took off' I mean went faster than I've ever seen an animal move.
Oh! Oh! And then this guy showed up! He was crazy talk.
I think when he talks he sounds very stately.
The bug not the human.
I mean, the human is a total rock star, because he and his wife are staying in the smelly but much loved cabin with nine boys tonight instead of me.
See? Totally stately.
I think I'll call him Mr Jeeves.
Everybody was super excited about getting to use it.
Weirdoes.
What wasn't weird was the Kid Wash my Dad built.
It was awesome.
To end the night we did a little star gazing
I hope Mr Jeeves wasn't near by. I wouldn't want him crawling on me.
Even though he would probably say something very intelligent and kind.
