Every year before our family's annual Cousin's Camp I wander around the property calling out to the frogs and snakes:
"Flee! Run for your lives! Don't let yourself be caught! They are coming! The children are coming!"
It's kinda like that scene in The Secret of Nimh where...
Holey Moley! Did you know Wil Wheaton was in the Secret of Nimh? It's true. I just IMBDed it. If you're a Twitterish type person you might want to follow him. He is an interesting guy. Plus he seems to love his wife well which is intriguing. I haven't read his autobiography yet but Patrick Rothfuss said it was good.
...Auntie Shrew runs around the field warning the animals the the tractor is coming early this year and they need to vacate. She's all "the plow is coming! the plow is coming!"
I was reminded of it this weekend at the reenactment at Shiloh. As we were walking past a pond one of my minions stopped and hunkered down.
"Flee! Run for your lives! Don't let yourself be caught! They are coming! The children are coming!"
What's in that terrarium, kid?
Fake frogs only, Mister.
Uh oh...
I warned you Salamander.
I told you to flee.
Why didn't you listen?
You? You tried to pinch me when I caught you. I feel less sorry for you.
Awwww...Why didn't you run!

A toad had been spotted.
The chase was on.
Don't worry. The toad was fine. Well...fineish.
Poor toad. Someone should have warned him.
Speaking of The Secret of Nimh the book is actually even better than the movie. And I stinkin' loved that movie. The book is called Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh.
I bet Wil Wheaton has read it. He's clever like that. And he's probably good at making kids be nice to animals.
Wonder how many times we've ween that movie?
ReplyDeleteA bunch! The book is really different - no magic - but just as good.
