The Hunger Games and Little League...

So...

I saw The Hunger Games a couple weeks ago.

I loved it.

However, it was a little unsettling.

I mean...

Not to give any spoilers away because you could read it on the back of the book but the novel is basically about children having to fight it out in an arena gladiator style.

Except no one stands up and says 'Are you not entertained?'

Sigh...Gladiator. What a movie.

So, The Hunger Games was super exciting and I was, of course, cheering for the heroine to survive. In order to survive though the other contestants (i.e. children) had to die - and there was the rub.

I mean...

I was essentially cheering for bad stuff to happen to children.

Children!

It's basically the reason I hate little league.

Well, that and that I think it's a monstrous suck of family time.

I had a bit of an epiphany several years ago while watching my nephew play. I began to clap as the pitcher on his team struck out some kid and I just kind of stopped and thought:

What the heck?

I was cheering because a dang nine year old had struck out.

I don't know.

I've got friends that love little league and have a blast with their families at the park every weekend but that's just not me.

I can just imagine how much fun it would not be to try to keep up with this thing at the ball park:

She would be all kinds of trouble at the ball park.

I just can't think of anything that would make me want to commit to little league.

Well...

Maybe if Russell Crowe was involved.
