We did a bit of hiking today.
Whenever I hike near a river I find myself mentally humming:
"Over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house we go..."
There were trout in the stream which was just cooler than Christmas.
Well, maybe not cooler than Christmas but definitely cooler than President's Day.
We wandered up a beautiful trail and found ourselves at the top of an overlook.
We took the obligatory camera held way out in front of you shot and then wandered some more.
While wandering we found something quite peculiar.
It was a hole punchy thing attached to a tree.
Surprisingly, googling 'hole punchy thing in woods' doesn't yield that many results that actually pertain to what we saw.
So, what about it folks?
What is this crazy thing?
It looked like a P was spelled out with the little spikes.
I'm at a loss.
Your job tonight is to go and do my job.
Find out what the heck this thing is.
While you're at it you could find out what this thing is:
Oh, wait...
I know.
It's just my husband's best friend hanging out with a gourd on his head.
It's all perfectly normal folks.
Yep, perfectly normal...
The hole punch this is for when you are orienteering in the woods.

I did it once when in NJROTC in high school - you have a topographical map marked with locations of the orange and white flags and you use the punchy thing to mark something as having reached that particular flag. The event is usually a timed competition (at least as far as I know it). It really is a lot of fun (if you like the tromping through woods trying to find markers on a map part of it).
Thanks! Sounds like it might be like all the geocaching that people are doing these days. I'd love to do it!
Delete"Over the River and Through the Woods"? Seriously? When you could be thinking "You know a dream is like a river, ever changing as it flows" Or "When I went down to the river to pray, studyin' about that good ol' way", or "We'd go down to the river, and into the river we'd dive. Oh down to the river we'd ride."
ReplyDeleteBrooks, Krause, Springsteen - all there for you and you go all Currier & Ives on us?
There is no way I ever would have gone for the Springsteen. Bruce Springsteen's music is like a banana. I know I should like it but I don't.
DeleteShe's a Currier and Ives kind of gal!
