The Smarm...

I abhor smarminess.

Hmmm...smarminess.

Hey!

Apparently smarminess is a real word because spell check totally let that slide.

Or maybe spell check was just feeling lazy?

Lets google dictionary, shall we?

Alright,

Smarmy is defined as:

Marked by a smug, ingratiating or false earnestness.

Smarmy.

You see it a lot on Twitter.

And at holiday gatherings.

But hopefully not on this blog because I abhor it.

The only time I allow a little smarminess to sneak in is during football season.

If there is one area that I need a little more sanctification in it's football season.

Dang football.

It's always getting me into trouble.

Last Saturday I took the boys to Ye Olde Iron Bowl.

We had a blast.

After the game, however, the eldest totally ratted me out to his Dad who wasn't able to go to the game.

"Have you noticed how crazy Mom acts during football games?"

Why, yes, Minion.

He has noticed how crazy I act during football games.

And my twitter account...

My friend Cindy mentioned the other day that she finds it odd when people have different personalities on Twitter than they do on Facebook.

Yeah, that's me all right.

I am not afraid to retweet some smarmy Auburn comments.

I mean...

I'd never do that on Facebook.

I think the difference is though that on Facebook I'm just me but on Twitter I'm tweeting as Jane Random.

See!

It's her fault!

AKA Miss Smarmy Pants.

Billy is never smarmy.

He just doesn't have it it in him.

Well, hardly ever.

So...

I won't let the boys say mean things about Bama but I'm perfectly willing to gleefully take pictures of funny signs other people made at the game.

You should probably pin this.

I won't let the boys gloat but when Bama lost to LSU the eight year old and I sat in a hotel room together and giggled.

It's not right.

I know it's not right.

Sigh.

I also won't let them act up in Auburn but for three years I let the oldest wear a tee shirt that said:

"How does it feel to lose the Iron Bowl? I don't know."

That's terrible karma.

We paid for it.

I'm working on it people.

I will say that when Bama won the national championship a couple years ago I was legitimately happy about it for the sake of several Bama friends that had had really bad years.

I say that's growth!

Yes, I really deserve a pat on the back.

And not a smug, ingratiating, or falsely earnest pat on the back but a legitimate one.

AKA Jane Random

My superpower? The ability to blog everyday.

  1. I used to care so much more than I do now. Life has been so... hard the last couple of years, it is just different now. I still totally love Alabama football. I just love people and my time with them more. Living here with so many Auburn friends and having such an amazing step-mom from Auburn has changed things too, lol. However the mean smarmy types can sure bring out the fight in me in a super, quick, hurry and my kiddo has been known to call me out a time or two as well, hahaha. I hope my Bama-ness doesn't get in our way =D. I have too many real life things to let a little orange and blue mess that up!! =D
