After Cousin's Camp every year there are always various and sundry things leftover.
Mismatched socks, Batman underwear, one flip but no flop...
We usually try to throw the unimportant things away before my Grandmom finds them and 'puts them away for later.'
"Quick! Her back is turned! Throw that sock away!"
This year this turned up on the porch:
One white binder.
No outside illustrations to mark whose it is.
Let's look inside:
Hmmm...
No name.
Let's really look inside:
The lyrics and guitar chords for Dora the Explorer.
Apparently, they have a child.
Next:
The lyrics and tabs for "Cats in the Cradle."
If there is a worse song ever written I'm not familiar with it.
I...
Well, really I just abhor this song.
I think what I hate so much about this song is that I remember hearing it when I was younger and thinking:
"Yeah! That's right!"
And now I just want to slap the guy.
Anyway, back to the search for the owner of the book.
Let's keep looking:
Bon Jovi and Def Leppard....
I'm beginning to get an idea of whose it might be.
And at last!
Handwriting!
That's going to be my brother Robb's handwriting.
Let's all collectively yell at him for having the tabs for "Cat's in the Cradle."
Seriously!
What was he thinking?
Before we yell though let's sample a little bit of Grandmom's cornbread batter.
Yeah, I eat cornbread before it's cooked.
Don't you?
It's so good!
Besides, if you saw how much butter she puts in the iron skillet that it gets poured in you would know it's way healthier to eat it precooked.
What's wrong with that?
Hey! No funny looks from you kids! Go get to work.
Better yet lets put the focus back on my brother:
He has dumb songs in his guitar tabs book.
As long as he has Lyin' Eyes, he can have any other dang song he wants!
ReplyDeleteBut then again, Lyin' Eyes and Amazing Grace!
ReplyDeleteCat's in the Cradle is great for when you want to think about getting old and dying....
ReplyDeleteEric, Why would you want to think about getting old and dying?
ReplyDeleteHaha your brother is quite cute. I stumbled across your blog being linked from Patrick Rothfuss's blog about a previous entry, it's actually quite an interesting read in spite of the traditionally mundane material. You have a great narrative voice hehe.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rachel. That Rothfuss blog has won me a lot of hits. I have forgiven the baby for destroying the house. You nailed it - my brother is cute and I'm nothing if not 'traditionally mundane!' Ha ha.
