Stalagmuds...

So, we went to Fort Morgan on Sunday.

For those of you that don't know Fort Morgan is an old military fort at the base of Mobile Bay in Alabama.

Old as in War of 1812 old.

That's old to Americans.

We were in the area and decided to tour it.

Good choice.

This is what it looks like.

Kinda.

I mean, clearly this is a Japanese throwing star that you can buy at that weird knife store in the mall but for some reason it also doubles as a map of the fort.

Avoid the gift shop.
The worker is cranky.

So, Fort Morgan:

It had these great arches that led to dark tunnels.

We had been advised - by Tripadvisor - to bring flashlights.

They were super helpful.

The fort had a very European flair to it.

Except there was no gelato at the end.
Which was sad.

The old brick was super cool.

Except...

There were these formations...

It kinda looked like glue dripping from the ceiling.

Like a stalagmite forming.

Stalagmite/Stalactite.

Potato/Potato.

You know, whatever those things that form in caves are called.

Wait! Rabbit Trail!

Tom Sawyer.

Come on!

What a fantastic book.

The cave scene - so good! Did you know that the cave scenes in the Disney movie Tom and Huck were filmed at Cathedral Caverns in Alabama.

The oldest minion loved that book.

He got all scared in the cave scene.

"It's true, I did."

Fort Morgan had plenty of nooks to spark the kids imaginations.

Henry was pretty positive that a 'dungeon' was behind every locked door.

There was much climbing to be done.

But back to the stallywags.

Why were they there?

I have no idea.

Do stalagitlags grow in forts?

Maybe it was a new breed of them

Lets call them 'stalagmuds.'

I like that.

Ya know what else I like?

The lantana that was growing all over the fort.

Lantana always makes me think of the book Heidi.

Theres a reason for it but its boring so I won't waste your time with it.

Heidi.

Thats another fantastic kids book.

But I don't think there were any stalagmishes is it.

No Stalagmuds either.

There sure were in this fort though.

Wish I knew what they were.

You know who would know?

Voltron.

Hey!

He was with us.

In tee shirt form anyway.

I should have asked him.
