Heroes...

So...

I've been thinking about heroes lately.

No, not that awful show.

Real heroes.

See my friend Brian is getting deployed to Afghanistan.

Again.

We have another friend that is in the military.

His name is Jeff.

Here he is in high school before the whole 'hero' thing.

That's not a helpful picture.

Let's try again:

Here he is in high school:

I say it was before the whole hero thing happened to him but actually...

Okay, here is the deal:

The year was 1990.

Poison was coming to town and I could not have been more excited.

Yep, your read that right.

The band Poison was coming to town and I was excited.

Don't judge me!

I was 14.

A group of us got together and began the arduous process of convincing our parents to let us go.

Our plan to get them to let us go hinged on Jeff.

See, he was 16 at the time and could drive.

He was also very responsible.

We convinced them that Jeff would go with us and oversee the whole concert experience.

 It worked. They said yes.

The big night arrived and the concert was every bit as wild as I thought it would be.

So, we were waiting for the band to start when a guy shuffles up to us and says "Hey, y'all want some pot?"

It was like every parent's worst fear about concerts was coming true right before our eyes!

Before we could even answer though Jeff stands up and says "NO THEY DON'T! Get out of here!"

So the whole heroic thing started early for him.

He is also responsible for one of the greatest Prom proposals ever.

He took a dozen roses and taped them on a monster truck remote control car with a note that said 'Will you go to the Prom with me?"

He then got permission from the teacher to drive the car into the class and up to her seat while he waited outside.

Seriously, how cute is that?

I mean she is sitting in Science (probably bored to tears) when a monster truck drives up to her desk!

That's good stuff.

Medal worthy.

Heroic.

So, best wishes Brian! And don't worry, I never told your parents about that party at your house in high school.

Update! One year later!
