So...
Here is a word for word translation of the very solemn conversation I had while digging for worms with the five year old yesterday:
Henry: "Are you and Daddy in love?"
Me: "Yes."
Henry: "When did you first get in love?"
Me: "When we were in college"
Henry: "When you were first being in love did you run in slow motion towards each other?"
The sound of brakes screeching to a halt...
The sound of brakes screeching to a halt...
What?
Huh?
Run in slow motion towards each other?
So that's what my five year old thinks love is.
Running in slow motion towards each other....
How odd...
How odd...
But...there was this one time.
We've talked about how tricky Billy was being in 1998.
He had commitment issues and I had wanting to get married issues.
Maturity wasn't my strong point.
He had commitment issues and I had wanting to get married issues.
Maturity wasn't my strong point.
So we headed into the summer of '98 still broken up.
He was in Atlanta for the summer.
We were on a strict no talking to each other policy.
So, one night I left Auburn and headed to Cullman County three hours away for a family reunion.
Unbeknownst to me he decided to drive to Auburn to see me.
Unbeknownst to me he decided to drive to Auburn to see me.
Did I mention it was late at night when he decided this?
So he gets to Auburn at eleven pm and I'm not there.
He then drives three hours to Smith Lake and shows up at my parents lake house.
I'm just glad he wasn't attacked by coyotes.
We spent two hours with each other sitting on the dock by the water.
He then turns right back around and heads back to Atlanta to make it to work on time for a seven am meeting.
Ya know...Mr Responsible and all.
Rabbit Trail:
All my single ladies...please wait for this kind of man.
The kind that will drive ridiculous amounts of miles at midnight to see you.
The kind that then still shows up for work the next day...
Alright, lecture over.
Back to the story....
So the next day at the reunion I'm emotionally and physically exhausted.
As we were cleaning up I tell my Aunt Sue: "I just don't understand him! Why is he acting like this?"
My Aunt Sue looks at me incredulously and says:
"Paula! He is in love! That is why he is acting this way."
So back to the question:

"Hi! I was even Mr Responsible in college!"

Minion: "So, did you Mom? Did you run in slow motion towards each other?"
Me: "Sometimes, Henry. Sometimes."
