So not to throw my friend Clint under the bus but here is the problem I have with fashion:
Jams.
Remember Jams shorts?
They were huge in the late eighties.
I mention them because:
A) I had several pairs
and
B) The Beach Boys are coming to my town in May.
What does this have to do with fashion?
Well, I used to wear Jams.
A lot.
In fact, I remember buying a special pair of Jams when The Beach Boys came to town last.
I'm thinking it was 1989.
Thank goodness I can't find any pictures of that.
Poor Clint...
He is having to pay the price for my bad picture organization skills.
But see the thing about my Jams is that I thought I looked really great in them.
I mean, at the time, they were really cool.
And now we look back and:
Jam!
They just kinda look like funny shorts.
So as Heidi Klum says on Project Runway:
"One day you're in and the next day you're out"
Here is another example:
I'm the one on the top right.
And yes, you can go on and say it was creepy to be that old and getting our picture taken with Santa.
So, see that outfit?
It came out of a box.
Seriously!
It was a phase in the eighties.
They had a kiosk that sold the basic pajama looking outfit that came in a box and then you could get the bows and accessories - also in a box - to match it.
I can't even remember what it was called.
It looks incredibly stupid now but again it looked cool then.
Or maybe it didn't.
Maybe I just thought it did.
Here is what didn't look cool:
My outfit to the Fall Dance in 1989.
Did the conversation go something like this:
"Hey Grandma, can I borrow one of your outfits for the big dance?"
"Sure, sweetie."
It must have.
So obviously in another 20 years I am going to be laughing at what I wore today.
So my question is:
Can't we just wear uniforms and be done with it?
How about Togas?
Just think about how easy the laundry would be.
Toga! Toga! Toga!

So what grade were you when you went to that dance in 1989? I say this because this was the year I got married. Girl - you make me feel old!
ReplyDeleteBTW, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the dance outfit.
Hey - quit calling me granny!
I was in the 7th grade. Don't try to make me feel better - that outfit was horrid!
ReplyDeleteLiked the top and sweater, but the pants could have been brighter than grey- I mean, didn't you have any JAMS you could wear? JK

PS- I liked the fashions of the 80s- well, some of them!
