Stinkin' puppies...

My children want a dog.

We the grownups, however, do not share their desire.

But Paula, you say, you had a dog growing up.

It's true.

His name was Baseball.

He was awesome.

But he was what people would call a "country dog"

"I'm a country dog."

He didn't go to the vet regularly or live inside or get groomed or live in a fence.

In other words he wasn't a bunch of trouble.

Dogs these days are a bunch of trouble.

However, there is one thing that is fatal to my "dogs are too much trouble" argument.

Its...

Its...

It's puppies.

They're so stinkin' cute.

Look at those puppies!

See how their bellies stick out and how happy they look?

The dogs are cute too.

But seriously, look at that little white puppy!

I want him.

Those little guys just look like blurs but man, oh man, are they cute little blurs.

Look at the Mama dog!

She looks happy.

Ya know what else makes me want a dog?

Ya know what else?

My eight year old - this is the kind of dog he has:

Poor Minion.

It's not even his dog.

It was mine.

An ex-boyfriend gave him to me when I turned 16.

Anyway, I digress.

So...puppies.

They bother me.

Stop being so cute!

  1. You just need a "low maintenance" dog. One that doesn't have to be groomed or eat fancy food. You know my recommendation would be a slim model Bassett Hound. She never needs grooming and I purchase the dry dog food in 40 pound bags at Costco. Vet once a year. Easy. We even use a radio freequency perimeter fence so we don't have to worry about anyone leaving a gate open.

Come visit her. You will see that adult dogs can be a cool as puppies.

  2. Oh Paula, We just went through dog fever this month! We bought a puppy, brought her home and and sent her back to the breeder 18 days later. Didn't work for the Waggoner's, but good luck to the Claunch's. May the force be with you!

  4. For years I've told James when he is 12 he could have a dog - at the time 12 seemed really far away. Now it doesn't seem so far away!
